Meet Dr. Gorman
Dr. Gorman has been practicing in Greenwich since 1985. He is a graduate of Northwestern University Dental School, where he taught full time in the Department of Oral Diagnosis, and practiced one day a week with the faculty group practice for 6 years after graduation. Besides being involved in patient screening, teaching emergency treatment of patient’s in pain, radiographic interpretation and diagnosis, his favorite part of teaching was treatment planning, which is essentially arranging the treatment the patient needs so that it is done in a logical sequence and all functions well together as a whole when it is completed. He was also a member of the volunteer clinical staff at Columbia University Dental School from 1985-1990. In Greenwich he has treated patients ranging in age from 4 to 104 years of age.
Dr. Gorman has a strong commitment to continuing education. He has taken the full continuum of continuing education courses at the prestigious L.D. Pankey Institute in Florida. He has been a member of the Academy of General Dentistry for 37 years, and has received their highest award – Mastership, which requires taking 1100 hours of continuing education (CE) at least 400 of which must be hand’s on courses in specific disciplines, learning new techniques. The Mastership award is attained by only about 5% of general dentists in the country.
Dr. Gorman also believes in giving back to the dental community. He is an Emeritus member of the dental staff at Greenwich Hospital, having volunteered one day a month for over 25 years from 1985 until the clinic was closed several years ago. He has been a Delegate to the Connecticut State Dental Association for the past 18 years, representing the Greenwich Dental Society. He is currently serving on the Board of Trustees of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), having previously served on the Membership Council for 6 years and the Dental Education Council for 6 years, three years as Chair. He is also on the Board of the National Society of Dental Practitioners (NSDP), the educational arm of his malpractice insurance company, Dentist’s Advantage. The NSDP develops courses and programs to educate dentists on how to avoid malpractice situations.
